U.S. Rep. Scott DesJarlais has told a newspaper that his views about abortion have evolved after previously supporting his ex-wife’s decisions to abort pregnancies during their marriage. As horrible as that is, Rep. DesJarlais is NOW painfully aware that he took part in killing his unborn children through the abortion procedure.
Did he just suddenly become prolife? No…none of us that are post-abortive become prolife instantly after the procedure. Sometimes it takes YEARS to realize what actually transpired. I don’t know Rep. DesJarlais personally; he may be a great person or a lousy person….but he is post-abortive and now the public is very reluctant to envelope this new facet of remorse. People are very Darwinian in their opinions of everything except if a person has really changed.
No, we have not crawled out from a syrupy goo, except in perhaps Darwin’s pivotal THEORY. Since the beginning of time, people and RELIGIONS have done their level best to either become God or kill God. While this Minister does NOT agree with the THEORY of evolution, I have to agree with the evolution of ideas and processes that we all have to deal with every day otherwise we would have never become the person we are today.
THEORETICALLY (I use in a sardonic Darwinian twang), we are geared to do certain things to appease a society (church, government, work, etc.) in order to survive with nods of approval regardless if we’ve even thought of researching or studying the particular ‘idea’. After all, those nods of approval make us all warm and fuzzy, eh?
Oh, pardon me…is my new prolife ‘life’ in your way?
CONSIDER THIS: Although you are idealistic, you ideals may be WRONG. Mine were, so I re-thought it and reconsidered, administered and established my new prolife ‘life’. But that didn’t go without eye-rolling from people that know me or just hate prolifers.
People’s thoughts about abortion interest me but don’t define or undo who I have become. More often than not, post-abortive women and men become ‘prolife’ later in life when the confusion stops and truth sets in.
My new prolife ‘life’ has been developing since knowing Christ as Savior. Very quickly after I became a Christian, the light went on….I had an abortion and I had to repent. And I did.
The Word of God tells us who we are [sinners], where we come from [God] and where we are going [eternal home]. Every day I am closer to God because of my horrific choices, not in spite of them. The good news is this: We have not evolved as creatures; we had to know Jesus to become a ‘new creature’:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he [or she] is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2Cor 5:17)
My new prolife ‘life’ began after I became a Christian. Evolution can’t touch that.
