From TheHill.com: ‘Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.), a Finance Committee member who supports his home-state governor’s confirmation, said he was unaware of any GOP “holds” on her but conceded that some Republicans have misgivings about her. “There are some on our side who have concerns over the tax issues and the very strong pro-choice record,” Roberts said.’
‘Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus’s (D-Mont.) attempt to fast-track the confirmation of Health and Human Services Secretary-designate Kathleen Sebelius has stalled over Republican objections’….I guess he thought no one would notice…anyway, to continue – ‘When he left the hearing, Baucus reportedly told reporters that he wanted to confirm Sebelius on Thursday. Baucus later said a Republican senator threatened to object to a unanimous consent request to put her up for a vote.’
First, Senator Roberts, who claims to be a Republican, is backing a woman that has ties to Dr. George Tiller, one of three late-term abortion doctors in the United States that has supported her monetarily in the recent past.
Secondly, since when is a confirmation vote held on the same day? Of course the Republicans are going to object to running her through that fast especially because of Sebelius’ stance on abortion. Incredibly, it hasn’t been brought up until now.
HHS is the last vacant Cabinet level position not yet filled by President Obama. This is like, three strikes and you’re out….
“With Obama’s appointment of Gov. Sebelius to the Department of Health and Human Services, he might as well be appointing George Tiller, because Tiller is the one that will be pulling her strings,” said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. “Sebelius’ involvement in Kansas abortion scandals and her indebtedness to the corrupt abortion lobby makes her unfit to serve. We urge our supporters to begin contacting their Senators now to voice opposition to Sebelius’ confirmation.”
So, what’s next? Who knows…the rules keep changing.
