Today is March 16th, or 3:16 Day for those of us that have chosen Jesus as our Savior. We made a solemn CHOICE for Jesus Christ and His finished work that has set us free [Rom 8:2]. Evangelical Christians PRAY….so, where do you pray? Where do you minister?
I CHOOSE to pray and minister on the sidewalk at abortion facilities. Noticeably and notably, the Church is absent. If there is an enigma of sidewalk ministry it’s because we make it one.
It really isn’t that hard. The Word of God says:
v2 Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving;
v3 meanwhile praying also for us, that God would open to us a door for the word, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in chains,
v4 that I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.
v5 Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time.
v6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. [Col 4:2-6]
BUT what this Scripture DID NOT say is that we only pray and walk in His Grace in church on Sundays. Maybe the enigma is that Christians have put Jesus back on the Cross rather than preach the Gospel to every creature: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” [Mark 16:15]
I have ‘preached’ to the choir about prayer and where it’s needed rather than wanted. The ‘church’ has sat quiet while 4000 unborn babies die EVERY DAY in the United States alone; over 150,000 worldwide.
Abortion is a sin problem. Jesus did not die for abortion, He died to save us from a fiery hell we deserved. This is exactly why I take ministry to the sidewalk, to honor my Risen Savior. Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven” [Matthew 19:14]. Women in crisis get abortions. Women in crisis need JESUS.
Very recently, a BUSLOAD of people that live nearly 2 hours away came to pray on the sidewalk…and the hundreds of churches that surround the abortion facility seldom come, if at all.
PASTOR: Put your ministry where you mouth is! Do what He commanded you to DO rather than sit in your comfortable sanctuary. The sidewalk is a common, public place where everyone is welcome, much like church is supposed to be.
Everyone is welcome on the sidewalk: Evangelicals, Protestants, Catholics, Jews, everyone! This is not about ecumenicism, it is COOPERATION to share the sidewalk. Many people, some I know personally, will not stand shoulder to shoulder on the sidewalk and that’s too bad. We should never let personal agenda keep us from being a faithful witness on the sidewalk to save lives spiritually and literally.
Let 40 Days for Life ease you and your church into sidewalk ministry. From the 40 Days site:
“40 Days for Life is a community-based campaign that draws attention to the evil of abortion through the use of a three-point program:
“40 Days for Life takes a determined, peaceful approach to showing local communities the consequences of abortion in their own neighborhoods, for their own friends and families. It puts into action a desire to cooperate with God in the carrying out of His plan for the end of abortion.”
During a 40 Days for Life campaign, you may come as an individual or with a church group to pray as you wish TO END ABORTION. We are all there for the same thing, to save our unborn from abortion death.
This is what you SHOULD NOT DO:
- Yell at anyone; the pre-abortive, coercers, abortionists, passers-by, etc.
- Persecute other faithful witnesses; This is a cooperation on the sidewalk
- Be combative for any reason; if anyone is combative with each other on the sidewalk, it does not show our heart toward saving the unborn. It is confusing to the pre-abortive.
This is what you SHOULD DO:
- Purpose to be at the sidewalk as often as you can.
- Be a prayerful faithful witness.
- Did I say SHOW UP? We really want to see you there!
It has been proven that when people show up at abortion facilities, they CLOSE. These facilities can’t handle the constant prayerful vigil for LIFE. It proves what they do is wrong and needs to stop.
