We live on the Life Chain route in our city. Every year we put out all of our prolife signs, the memorial crosses, etc. We ‘decorate’ more for Life Chain than we do for Christmas.
There was a time when Life Chain prolifers was shoulder to shoulder, with their churches, for nearly a mile on each side of us. This year was even less than last year. Prolifers are DYING because our generation is getting older.
As prolifers, we need to – HAVE TO – reach out to younger people, young families, and their churches to get excited for unborn life with outreaches, baby showers, voting for prolife candidates and witnessing on the sidewalks of abortion facilities.
Right now is a great time to integrate with other prolifers with the Fall 40 Days for Life campaign. Finding a prolife church is IMPORTANT, finding prolife friends is something you’ll never regret.
This has been an interesting thing for me. I’ve pondered and considered everything, all the prolife movement has to offer. And it pains me to even think this out loud, but the 40 Days for Life model does not work, and it wasn’t set up to.
Now, while a bunch of my friends are gasping at this, I must try to explain this as simply as I can without pointing persecuting fingers at anyone or any entity. Look, the people who participate in 40DFL are gems. Truly. But if I only see you during 40DFL, then this has become a dismal failure.
I loved 40DFL. I found it online in 2008. I saw this term I never heard before, post-abortive. It was like looking into a mirror, I got it. I needed it. But after all these years, I finally had to take a hard look at 40DFL. I did not like what I saw.
For the most part, and I mean MOST, people who participate in 40DFL will only come during their allotted time they signed up for and when the campaign is over, that’s it. We don’t see them until the next campaign. WHY? Well, as an ex-catholic, I’m pretty sure I know the answer: It’s works based rather than Holy Spirit led.
The 40DFL model has never said they advocate for any one religion. However, they have not done what they should to bring more Evangelical Christians [Baptist, COG, AG, etc.] or Protestant Christians [Episcopal, UMC, Lutheran, etc.], if anything at all. Everything has been Catholic based, and if the Spring Campaigns haven’t proven that starting off on Ash Wednesday, then you aren’t paying attention. And for this, I blame 40DFL for passively advocating for Catholics rather than Evangelical Christians. 40DFL has chased away Evangelicals and Protestants because they see 40DFL as Catholic only. Maybe 40DFL assumed that Evangelicals follow Catholic traditions? Rather, we simply follow the Bible and the Holy Spirit, not a liturgy or sabbath keeping or sacraments.
The model was supposed to bring more people to the sidewalk of abortion mills with the intent of showing folks that they are needed year round. But for the most part, and I mean MOST, that has not happened. The 40DFL model is supposed to attract more participants, all of us, and show us that we are needed to shut down abortion mills. 40DFL – and other prolife groups – like to take all the glory when a mill shuts down, but the truth is that graphic public outreaches work which takes abortion money away, or maybe the law was finally in our favor.
Last campaign, it was quite obvious that 40DFL tried to ‘own’ the sidewalk for the 40 days campaigns; no graphic images, not allowed to openly advocate for rescues, speakers had to be some kind of androgynous 40DFL approved prolifer, etc. As an Evangelical Christian, that binds the hands of God from doing with us His Will.
Prayer and passivity [acceptance of what happens, without active response or resistance] is the 40DFL model, and that is exactly what they got…and continue to get. Passivity has never won one soul to Heaven but it will send someone straight to hell. Other outreach models DO work, ones that preach the Gospel, share Jesus, and loves someone enough to tell them they are wrong and need a Savior.
So I suppose the moral of this story is this: 40DFL is not going to change, neither is there model. It’s the 80/20 rule, only 20% or less will continue being on the sidewalk all year. That is a awful shame.
FIRST OF ALL: All this whining about ‘civil disobedience’ is actually about PUBLIC disobedience…of the new prolife movement, or the new sacred cow protected by mean girls on Facebook.
The sidewalk is owned by NO ONE. BUT if you’re a prolifer without a group and you approach the sidewalk, like a gunslinger in a western…you will quickly KNOW who OWNS the sidewalk. The New Prolife Movement doesn’t mind discouraging prolifers if they don’t bow to their ‘system’ in place. The First Amendment is a distant memory when you deal with the sacred cow of the new prolife movement. Typical symptoms are: Disengagement, then disenfranchised, and finally totally disarmed from our first love of saving lives, helping women, and preaching the Gospel. We have literally devoid ourselves of the truth of who we are and what we do as prolifers – the new sacred cow professing only partial truths, throwing their weight around.
Who are we, what have we become, how did we get here?
Being followers rather than individuals has brought us where we are as a movement. We’ve allowed the tail to wag the dog, Jesus has left the building, and we are spent and empty. THEN THE RESCUE HAPPENED.
YES we needed a REFRESHING! And just like that, a reprise of the rescue movement breathed a huge needed breath of fresh air into a displaced expanse of VOID. Certain ‘prolife’ leaders have shamed the very thing that saves lives and makes sense, conveniently forgetting how they got here. Even worse, saying rescuing did not save lives.
Groups like 40 Days for Life, Sidewalk Advocates for Life, and And Then There Were None, Prolife Wife, have voiced their opinions of what ‘proper’ prolife counseling, etiquette and presence is. I dare say that the people one particular group chose to review and poll regarding ‘approaching’ abortion minded women does not make up the majority of post-abortive and pre-abortive women. It’s embarrassing, I mean seriously…polling abortion workers??? It was like asking speeders how they want to be pulled over. Long story short, THEY DON’T.
However, can’t say that the FB Live Q&A’s, conferences, fund raisers, and the eventual epic social media temper tantrums of the new sacred cow hasn’t been entertaining.
So, as for me and my house, and on the sidewalk, we will serve the LORD because He comes first – not second or third: “Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,” [Acts 3:19]. Preach the Gospel. Read the Book of Acts and get ready! This new movement has forgotten it’s first love, Jesus.
The bratty mean girls of the prolife movement need to read their Bible, not Yelp reviews or Facebook comments. SO that being said, here is a ‘review’ of what rescues mean to a multiple abortive woman:
“I cannot even FATHOM what it would have been like to see the Calvary blocking the doors of the killing place or in the waiting room with a fragrant red rose and a loving heart. WHAT IF rescuers had been there for my post-abortive mom? Not only would I have my brother or sister, but also my own child that would be 39 this year. You dumped all over part of the movement that began it all, including YOUR group [I’m done calling your GROUP a ministry because there ain’t no evidence of Jesus being in it when you shame].” More in the video below.
Look, don’t want to rescue? THEN DON’T. Just don’t shame those who are putting their futures on the line to save unborn children. And just back off.
But first, let me set the scene for you three days prior to the ‘event’. Thursday on the sidewalk was like any other day until someone who we call ‘Bongo Guy’ [more on that later] showed up. Just like a walker, he came out of nowhere and asserted himself right next to our anchor counselor ‘encouraging’ women to abort their babies.
A so-called ‘man’ you have never seen before shows up at an abortion facility to tell you it’s okay to kill your baby? STOP RIGHT THERE. Every proabort whines about being sensitive to pre-abortive women, how they believe we ‘yell’ at them, etc., and some guy shows up on one of the worst days of your life to cheer for your abortion??? What kind of lunatic does that? Oh…but that’s not the best part! Soon after this, an abortion worker comes running out of the kill mill, literally throws herself into Bongo Guy’s arms and starts shouting that she helped ‘kill another baby’. And then the celebration ensued. Yes, on possibly the worst day of this now post-abortive woman’s life, Bongo Guy and an abortion worker celebrating killing her child. I’m sure PUSH Dayton, Dayton Women’s Rights Alliance, and NARAL Ohio sees nothing wrong with this circus sideshow, but prolifers offering real help to real women is wrong? That math doesn’t jive.
Knowing we had been openly targeted by a bunch of fair-weather rabid proaborts, I had the distinct pleasure of coordinating their Welcome Committee for the Sunday ‘event’. So many evil and sad things to report. First, NARAL needs to get a clue. Their ignorance is not ignored by God. Their weekly whine party was exactly what we thought it would be: CONJECTURE of the truth. What actually happened was women emasculating men in front of their wives and children, speaking hate and bigotry, trying to use intimidation to no avail. It was like watching a bunch of five year olds at recess picking on the weak kids.
Second, If you have an opinion and want to protest, do it in a way that isn’t a total embarrassment. A ‘veteran’, a woman, shows up in a pink tutu and can’t quite figure out why no one on the prolife side of the sidewalk will take her seriously. I mean, seriously! And a side note here: If you are in the service, you get deployed, you fight or help fight for our Constitutional freedoms, GET A CLUE! The prolife side of the sidewalk is where free speech reigns and our Constitutional right to assemble. And it is also noted that if you are willing to advocate to kill Americans on American soil in abortion facilities, then your big ole pat on the back for being veteran is pretty much null and void, your argument is invalid.
And third, women humping each other. And somehow that has something to do with so-called ‘reproductive justice’? Yeah, I don’t think so, either.
Fourth, Old women who will never need free birth control or abortion has no voice. Just like that tired old sign ‘Will Never Get Pregnant’ that the same person points at all the men AND at young elementary school aged boys at all of these sideshows, YOU will NEVER get pregnant. Again, your argument is invalid. And pitiful. Interesting to note that an anti-church hosted this heinous debacle to further an agenda that cannot procreate.
Fifth, The screeching little girl. This isn’t your typical little girl squeal, but a demonic screech that will chill you to the bone. She ran like a wild animal, with her mother’s approval, and pitched this screech on the prolife side of the sidewalk at men. But as I watched this scene, as Bongo Guy beat that drum, it was as if the Bible opened up to show me what this was, a ritual that honors Molech, a ‘god’ who ancients gave their children as human sacrifices to ‘pass through the fire’ and in return, gives back prosperity. Much is the same with modern abortion; the abortion agenda promises wealth, job opportunities, college educations, boyfriends, husbands, etc., all of which never actually happens. The promise kills an unborn child to appease a demonic god that hates the Creation of God.
It was one of those days where I had to pray the evil off of me. They hate God, they hate men, they even hate each other for not being as proabort as they are. It’s quite a show. But the sad part, besides the obvious, is that none of this is new. Same old tactics, same old rhetoric. Interestingly, these proaborts very seldom come on a kill day. I suppose facing the truth is uncomfortable? So, this I pose to every proabort who believes the LIE: If you ever go on a kill day, have an answer for women who leave there literally EMPTY and without hope – because very soon they will see right through the ‘abortion made my life WONDERFUL’ lie. They will still need help paying rent, getting to work, babysitters, buying food. And when they find out your abortion answer is a LIE…I suggest you have an answer and a checkbook.
