#fillthebooties is a personal initiative and ministry to literally do exactly that, fill the booties. Even after losing my babies, I never put my hook and yarn completely away. I set it aside for awhile, but never lost hope that what little I can do for an unplanned little one will be a hand extended with love, hope and Jesus.
Every child saved from abortion has approximately 35 couples waiting YEARS to adopt. YEARS. On the sidewalk, we recently knew of a woman considering adoption and in under 60 seconds we personally knew of 5 families that would adopt, no questions asked of the baby’s circumstances, race, health, etc. While adoption is the perfect solution, it doesn’t go without the sacrifice.
And there is the other side of adoption. A good friend asked :
“Can you have your church pray for my best friend . She gave her daughter up for adoption today and I don’t think it has fully hit her yet. I know she is making a very selfless decision and it really is for the best but I also know her heart is breaking right now. I just feel if a lot of people pray for her maybe it will help her heart heal faster.”
First, I am honored to have someone trust me enough to help her friend with such a hard thing. Second, I am impressed with her friend’s ability to be so selfless in such a selfish world. Third, I do not believe for one minute that her friend’s baby was unwanted, just unplanned. Fourth, prayer changes things and heals the brokenhearted. And fifth, I am thanking God for her!
God heals, God restores, God heals the brokenhearted:
“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name.
Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.” Psalms 147:3-5
When we are on the sidewalk, most of the moms will not choose life long enough to give their unwanted/unplanned child a chance with a family who has been waiting a very long time to be parents. We already know that most women did not want to abort at all but chose to because their dire circumstances coerced them into an abortion decision rather than life with a family ready to care for him/her.
God says there are NO unwanted children: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations,” [Jer 1:5].
There are no orphans of God.
